I always get told
that I should post some of the tricks to things that made life easier
with twins. So, here I go...
Bottle Props
Yeah, some/most
people say this is a big no-no. But, this really helped us make
it through the tough times. No harm has been done and it was a
lot easier to feed both at the same time.
1. Cut two horseshoe shapes out of juvenile type fabric.
It will look like an "U".
2. Take a scrunchy (elasticized fabric hair band) and sew that
onto the bottom part of the "U".
3. With the right sides together, sew both the 'U' shapes
together. Start on the inside of the U, leaving the middle part
of the U unsown.
4. Turn fabric right sides out and stuff with poly filler.
5. Sew by hand the remaining prop.
Bottle/Cup
holders
These are holders
that attach to highchairs or strollers.
1. Cut a
piece of fabric 3 inches wide by one foot long.
2. Sew the
ends to prevent fraying (I always roll the fabric twice and sew).
3. Cut a 8
inch strip of 1 inch wide underwear band elastic (can even use elastic
off old underwear if in a pinch).
4. Stretch
the elastic while sewing onto the 12 inch strip of fabric.
Sewing the elastic onto the fabric can be done several ways. I
folded the fabric in half long wise and slipped the elastic in and sew
across the top (without stretching the elastic to get the elastic to
hold to the fabric. Then reach in, pull the elastic and sew
along each side of elastic (down, over and back up).
5. If the
unfolded side of fabric is unfinished, sew those (may have to stretch
elastic to get a straight stitch).
6. Take 2-3
inches of velcro and sew that to one end by folding the ends to match
the strip of velcro cut. This maybe easier to do with non-stick
velcro. If using velcro that sticks, use Vaseline frequently on
the needle to keep the sticky stuff off. This is the end you'll
attach to the stroller/highchair. Set this aside for now.
7. Cut a 5
inch by two inch strip of fabric (may want to take one of the
bottles/cups you use frequently to make sure it is long enough).
finish the seams on the fabric. Fold over and finish. I
put elastic in mine, but Michael suggested using velcro since our cups
kept falling out.
8. Cut a
2-3 inch strip of velcro. Attach it to the ends of the fabric
you had just sewn together. This is your cup/bottle holder.
9. Sew the
middle of the cup holder to the opposite end elastic strip (should
look like a 'T'). Sew over this section as many times as you'd
like to reinforce it. Try it out!
What to do with
those Litter Buckets....
I found an
awesome use to those empty litter buckets (we use Tidy Cats). I
was looking for a container to hold yarn and fabric that would either
fit under the bed or better yet in one of the closets in the hall.
We ended up putting one of the bookshelves in there as Mommy got tired
of picking books off the floor every 5 minutes. So, what I was
looking for was something to fit in the remaining space in that
closet....I was sitting out in the garage one afternoon (looking at
the mess). I spotted three buckets sitting there and the
lightbulb went off! I brought those in and cleaned them out.
I was able to put over a dozen skeins of yarn in one of the 35 lb
litter containers and quite a bit of fabric in the other two.
